Places to Visit in Madikeri & Easternwoods

The most well-liked hill station in South India is Madikeri, which is intriguing and captivating. One of the most popular tourist destinations in Karnataka is this elevated paradisiacal tiny hill resort in the appealing Coorg district. This hill station is a gorgeous place of natural beauty with breath-taking views and delightful tourist attractions. It is surrounded by the Western Ghats mountain range. Because of this, we'll examine the best tourist attractions in Madikeri that enhance the area's charm

The hill station is well-known among tourists not just for its beautiful historical architectural wonders but also for its stunning natural beauty. If you happen to visit this place only once, you'll want to return time and time again since it's so captivating.

Raja's seat

  • Raja’s seat entrance ticket ₹5 per person, ₹40 for vehicle parking. The ticket for the toy train costs ₹20 per person.
  • Raja’s seat Park timings 5.30 am to 8.00 pm every day of the week.
  • Musical fountain timings 7.00 pm on weekdays, 6.45 and 7.20 pm on weekends.

The Raja's seat is probably the most significant tourist destination in Madikeri. The Coorg royal family made frequent trips here to enjoy the flower gardens in the evenings and watch the sunset over the valleys in the mornings. You can even walk to this location if you are in the town.

As of right now, the gardens are perfectly kept. A vantage point with a view of the lush mountains is on the opposite side. It feels so delicate with gazebo intertwined with floral climbers. There is a toy railway nearby (they claim it is for kids, but you don't have to accept that). Additionally, there is even a musical fountain show with lights if you stay until dusk.

03

Abbey Falls

  • Abbey Falls timings 9 am to 5 pm every day of the week
  • Abbey Falls ticket prices ₹15 per person; up to ₹50 for vehicle parking

Without a few waterfalls, a hill station isn't complete. Coorg's most well-known attraction is Abbey Falls. But you need a ride because they are 8 kilometres from the main city. When waterfed during the monsoon, the falls are stunning. Sincerity be told, they are not particularly impressive in the heat.

#

Additionally, the area can be crowded with people looking for space on the hanging bridge directly across from the falls during peak hours. To get to the falls, you must make a short hike. Private coffee and spice plantations are located close to the waterfall, and occasionally the wind will carry a breath of fresh air of the fragrance with it.

04

Madikeri Fort

  • Madikeri Fort Timings Rs.15 per person (Indian) and Rs.200 per person (Foreigner).

One of the last remaining examples of the Haleri dynasty in Coorg is the Madikeri Fort. I won't claim that the fort is in the best possible shape. There is a substantial degree of deterioration visible.

#

The fort was initially made out of mud, and due to internal power struggles, it has been repeatedly burned down and rebuilt. Then Tipu Sultan constructed it out of granite in the latter part of the 17th century. There is a palace inside the fort. Early in the 19th century, brick and mortar were added to further strengthen it. As you enter the fort, enormous sculptures of elephants welcome you. The apartments are still empty, though, and the glitz of the royals is long gone.

The British built a church right next to the parking lot after demolishing a Virabhadra temple. The Government Museum is another name for the church. It displays a selection of objects made by the earliest Kodagu settlers. The fort now serves as a Deputy Commissioner's office. Access is unrestricted.

05

Namdroling Monastery

  • Namdroling Monastery timings 7 am to 7 pm every day of the week.

You should put Namdroling Monastery at the top of your list of Coorg attractions to see. The Nyingma lineage, the oldest of the four main schools of Tibetan Buddhism, has its greatest teaching facility at the Tibetan monastery. Numerous students from the Tibetan community live and study there, including monks and nuns in their thousands

The Tibetan refugees were given the land on which it is located by the Indian government, and the monastery's foundation was laid there in 1963.

As a visitor, you must be careful not to disturb the monks as they go about their daily prayers or rituals because the monastery contains several structures. Three enormous statues of Tibetan deities painted in gold fill the main hall, which is enormous. The hall walls are covered with detailed flat-colored murals in vivid colours that tell mythological tales. To witness such a pronounced cultural disparity in the centre of a Kannadiga town in the Western Ghats is remarkable. Entry is free.

06

The Coffee Estates

Visits to coffee estates are the greatest method to get a close-up look at the coffee plant's life cycle. Living there would be much better. In the centre of it, some plantation owners provide homestays. The smell of coffee beans and regional spices greets you as you awaken in the morning. The locations of these are typically a little outside of the city, so consider your transportation alternatives.

Another option is to schedule a half-day excursion with a plantation. There are several of them available, so ask the locals for their recommendations on which is the best.

07

Omkareshwara Temple

  • Time Required To See The Place 2 hours.

Visits to the Omkareshwara Temple are special because of its design. Despite being a Hindu temple to "Lord Shiva," the design is very similar to a Muslim Dargah. The elements are even more prominent because to the four minarets and the spherical dome on top. The Shiva lingam is located inside the main sanctuary.

According to legend, the then-king constructed it in the 18th century as an act of atonement. A local Brahmin had lost his life as a result of the king's political objectives. The monarch claimed that he had nightmares about the Brahmin. The king made the decision to install a Shiva lingam and build a temple in order to calm his soul. Eventually, it did put an end to the king's dreams.

To comprehend the ecology, biology, and traits of elephants, you can adhere to your guide. Then, near the banks of the Cauvery River, you might continue to scrub one with your own hands. While you're there, you can also give them ragi, jaggery, and sugarcane to eat.

Thadiyandamol, which rises to a height of 1,748 metres (5,735 feet), is the tallest peak in the Coorg area. The trek's beginning is about 41 kilometres from Madikeri. Depending on your speed and the weather, a one-way trip takes 3–4 hours. Even if it frequently rains, the beautiful scenery is worth it.

#

You can either set out on your own or join a group trip that departs from Coorg or even Bangalore for the journey. The journey begins in the village of Kakkabe. For a full round trip from the peak, allow 20 kilometres to walk. The rainforest is filled with birds and reptiles and is home to a variety of plants and animals. There is also the opportunity to ride an elephant, which is scheduled twice day. From 10 am to noon and 4 pm to 5 pm, rides are scheduled

Just 4 kilometres away from Abbey Falls is another trekking path near Madikeri, Mandalpatti Mountain. The Pushpagiri reserve forest area's lovely green mountains can be seen from above along the incredibly scenic path. The majority of the park's territory is accessible by bike, but you must walk the final 3 kilometres or so.

The excursion is best enjoyed in a jeep, which costs about 1500 for a group of six. The jungle is relatively dense. Two routes can be taken to go to Mandalpatti. Traveling via Abbey Falls with a stopover and returning via the longer Makkanduru route would be the best course of action.

The Western Ghats' Madikeri is a small hill town well known for its coffee plantations. This region of South India supplies a lot of the coffee that is sold in normal canteens under the label "filter coffee. " Coorg also boasts a unique culture with unique food, clothing, festivals, and even a language that is currently in risk of extinction. However, Coorg is now primarily used as a weekend retreat by people from Bangalore, Mysore, and the surrounding regions.
